چکیده

Structural mechanical vibration is commonly measured through punctual sensors, i.e. sensors that measure the structural behavior at only one point. Examples of such sensors are accelerometers, LVDTs, non-scanning laser vibrometers, and proximity probes. This project aims at developing an acquisition system able to measure the dynamic behavior of a structure as a whole (many points) using only one sensor: a video camera. After video image acquisition, the vibration at specific points of interest in the structure is obtained by computer post processing, adopting image processing techniques. Experimental results show the feasibility of measuring unidirectional vibration with a 30 fps camera, resulting in good amplitude resolution when compared to proximity probe measurements. Due to the camera sample rate, direct measurement of vibration is limited in frequency. For this reason, a faster video camera was used to measure orbits in a rotating system, thus achieving good experimental results in two directions of movement. In general, acquisition rate and exposure time of the camera have shown to be critical parameters to achieve good quality measurements of vibration.

Dynamic Performance of Vibrometer Steering System for Dynamic In-Fight Tracking and Measurement

Noncontact dynamic measurements of lightweight flexible aerospace structures in motion present several challenges. Achieving high frequency and high resolution measurements requires multiple registered metrology systems. Many noncontact measurement methods are based on the object staying aligned with the sensor. Yet sometimes the desired loading is a result of the motion interacting with struct...

Video Camera–Based Vibration Measurement for Civil Infrastructure Applications

Visual testing, as one of the oldest methods for nondestructive testing (NDT), plays a large role in the inspection of civil infrastructure. As NDT has evolved, more quantitative techniques have emerged such as vibration analysis. New computer vision techniques for analyzing the small motions in videos, collectively called motion magnification, have been recently developed, allowing quantitativ...

Magnitude of vibration triggering component determines safety of structures

Transmission of blast waves is a complex phenomenon and the characteristics vary with blast design parameters and geo-technical properties of medium. Frequency of vibration and triggering component for structural excitation generally quantifies safe vibration magnitude. At closer distance or higher elevations than the blast locations, vertical or transverse component will be the first arrival t...
